Introduction To The Tilghman Island Marina

Dear Captain:

The following information is intended to introduce you and your club or group to the Tilghman Island Marina.  Hundreds of boaters regard our marina and island as one of their favorite cruise destinations on the Chesapeake Bay.  Hopefully you will find our facility alluring enough to make us your destination in 2005.

The Tilghman Island Marina offers a serene, quaint and natural environment that portrays much of what the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore and Tilghman Island are about.  We’re located at the west entry to Knapps Narrows, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay, Back Creek Park and an upscale vacation community.  We are a rather small and personable owner operated marina with a special focus on Boating Groups, Yacht Clubs and Transient Guests.  Groups with up to 12 boats ranging in size from 20’ to 50’ plus are easily accommodated within the basin.  Our 60’ and 90’ T-heads are reserved for larger boats with up to 9’MLW draft requirements.  All slips have potable water and 2-30A / 1-50A power connections.  Pump-outs are free and our private bathrooms/showers are said to be the cleanest on the bay.  For those landlubbers traveling with your group but without accommodations, we offer luxury rental homes.

Since taking ownership in 1999, we have rebuilt much of the infrastructure and added numerous amenities in an effort to provide greater comfort to our guests.  Last year we attracted over 600 transient guests of which more than 50% were return customers from prior years.  Many were associated with boating groups which are now booking their return trips a year in advance.  The majority of our patrons feel that we are one of the best kept secrets on the bay and most return several times per year to enjoy our marina and island.

Many groups take advantage of our catered Crab & Corn Feast which is provided “at- cost” to our guests.  Live crabs are acquired from local workboats and local corn is farm-fresh.  Both are loaded into a gas fired bushel steamer to be cooked by a local waterman/caterer using just the right amount of beer and spice.  A small boating group will easily devour the entire bushel in one sitting.  For those who want more than just crabs, a waterman’s fish fry with hushpuppies or a southern pig roast can be arranged.  For special events like anniversaries, birthdays and weddings, a local bakery provides special order desert items.

As for what the Island of Tilghman has to offer, there are 5 really great dine-in restaurants and 1 takeout; the majority provide waterfront dining/drinks and daytime or evening music.  Conveniently located just next door is one of the finest waterfront restaurants in Talbot County.  All other dining, inns, shops and sights are within a short walk, dinghy ride or bike ride.  If motor transportation is required, several offer van service for pickups and returns.  Additionally, for those who want to shop, dine or explore one of the most popular stops on the Bay, a local service provides passenger van transportation to and from St. Michaels.  Golfers can enjoy the 18 holes just 15 minutes away at one of the most challenging and scenic golf courses on the Eastern Shore.

Back at the marina you’ll find an array of recreational rental equipment offered by T.I. Marina Rentals.  Many of our customers appreciate having access to motor scooters, bicycles, kayaks, waverunners, pontoon boats and fishing/crabbing gear.  Fishing from our docks can be quite fruitful as we have seen dozens of legal size rock fish, trout and flounder caught from our piers which overlook the narrows and Bay.  Just across Knapps Narrows from the marina is the entry to Back Creek State Park; a perfect place to visit nature.  Kayak, canoe or Zodiac (bring shear pins) are best suited for its shallow waters.  Once inside, you’ll see just about every form of wildlife native to the area.  Bald eagles, osprey, blue herons, hawks, egrets, swans, geese, ducks, deer and fox are generally abundant with many other critters visible at times.

With regard to ease of access, we are just 5nm southeast of G “83” (marks bay’s main shipping channel).  Once at G “83” follow a course of 123° for 4.9nm.  This brings you to G “1”, the west entry mark to Knapps Narrows.  Continue on past R “2” and R “4”.  We’re immediately on your starboard side; the break in the seawall is the entry to our basin.

We are a MarinaLife Partner offering discounts on recreational rentals as well as special midweek group rates to clubs staying Monday thru Thursday (excluding holiday or special event days).

I hope the information presented provides some hint of the beauty, serenity and hospitality that our marina, surroundings and island have to offer.  Should additional information be desired, please call 410-886-2500 or link to either of the following web sites: www.TilghmanMarina.com or www.tilghmanisland.com or visit in person for a personal tour.

Should you find our facility desirable, it is suggested that you make reservations as soon as possible as we are limited in the number of boats we can accommodate at one time.  Additionally, several groups have already booked their preferred days and new reservations are coming in weekly.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to distribute this to anyone that may have interest in learning of our “Quaint Oasis” overlooking the beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

Best Regards and Happy Boating in 2005,
