Marina Introduction

The Tilghman Island Marina offers a serene, quaint and natural environment portraying much of what the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore and Tilghman Island are all about. Strategically located at the west entry to Knapps Narrows Channel, the property overlooks the Chesapeake Bay, Back Creek and an upscale vacation community. Slip holders and transient guests routinely enjoy the expansive Bay views, killer sunsets and quick access to the Back Creek Water Trails, a perfect place for kayaking, paddle boarding and wildlife viewing.

3 sides of the marina are surrounded by the Tilghman Quay Community whose back yards meet with the foot path circling the Marina's basin. It is common to find community homeowners walking the path while admiring the boats and promoting conversation with slip holders and transient guests. Many coincidental meetings have evolved into lasting friendships and even transformed first time visitors into regulars returning year after year.

Most evenings throughout the summer season you'll find boaters relaxing in the comfort of their boats while enjoying their end of day cocktails in anticipation of another record sunset. Simultaneously homeowners will walk the docks sharing warm smiles and pleasant conversation while sipping their own drink of choice. As the sun sets, the western sky slowly morphs from deep blue into a spectacular rainbow of yellow-orange-red colors. This nightly event is enjoyed by newcomers as well as residents and even locals that have lived here all their lives. Nightly sunsets like this are one of the many benefits of living the Eastern Shore life style.

This place just radiates serenity with that "Welcome Home" feel; even when you've never been here before.

About Us - Meet Ron & Nancy

Tilghman Island Marina & Rentals Owners, Captain Ron & Nancy Tilghman Island Marina & Rentals Owners, Captain Ron & Nancy
Ron and Nancy - 1999 on left and more recent on right

Upon purchase in the spring of 1999, Ron and Nancy immediately began the process of renovating the Marina's facilities and building their home on an adjoining lot. For the first year and a half they did weekend commutes from their NJ home to their boat kept in a Marina slip which doubled as a Marina office and weekend cottage. Ron even installed a telepone and credit card system on the boat for processing customer credit cards.

Even to this day a few of the old timers will laugh about how they used to call Ron in NJ informing him that they had spent the night in a transient slip and placed their dockage fee under the cabin door of Mz Nansea, his 27' suncruiser.

By the fall of 2001 their Marina home was complete allowing an immediate transition to full time Tilghman Island residents. Most summer days you'll find either one or both working around the property, assisting customers, socializing with friends or just lounging around the pool. As for winter time, there really isn't very much to do for either the marina or rental boat business so its mostly rest and indoor project time.

It's a fairly laid back Island lifestyle they lead nowadays.

The marina hosts an array of watercraft rentals offered by T.I. Marina Rentals, LLC. Though most rental customers are area tourists visiting St. Michaels, Easton, Oxford or Cambridge; many are vacation home renters with waterfront vacation homes that allow rental boats to be kept at their dock for a few days to a week at a time. Having come from other parts of the country they appreciate being able to rent watercraft so near St. Michaels and being able to boat on our waters.

Additionally the local community, marina slip holders and marina transient guests also value having access to jet skis, waverunners, small powerboats, kayaks, paddle boards, bicycles, and fishing or crabbing gear.

All equipment is impeccably maintained and all renters receive an extraordinary amount of relevant training prior to each rental in order to ensure customer safety and conformance with Maryland boating laws.

Renting fun times and smiles with memories you keep is their moto and goal.

Captain Ron also offers waterway tours, sunset cruises, kayak excursions and powerboat operation training.

About Jobs and Employment Opportunities

Click above to enlarge

Tilghman Island Marina typically requires several employees to assist with property, equipment and customer care during summer months. Though most positions require some level of strength and agility in order to safely lift/launch/retrieve kayaks, launch waverunners from floating docks and assist boaters with line handling, we do on occasion also have a need for someone to help in the office. Over the years we have employed men, women, boys and girls ranging in ages from young teenagers to retirees. Typically at least one employee returns from the prior year creating the need to add at least one new person to fully staff.

All positions are paid commensurate with experience however the majority of teenagers we have employed over the years have come to us with no job skills whatsoever. As such we have become quite good at training youngsters which allows their pay to grow year after year as they mature into self-starters. By the time they get to college age, they are generally making more than most others in their same age group and have acquired skills that far exceed most of their friends. Our most successful examples are 2 Tilghman Island children that started working here as young teenagers. Over the years, they grew into mature adults that have gone on to become very successful; one in college and the other in the Marine Corps. We are quite proud of them and feel like we were instrumental in their growth.

So if you are looking for part-time summer employment or if you have a youngster that may be interested, please call our office to inquire about job openings.

Tilghman Island is about 3 miles long and 1 mile wide at its widest point with a population of around 800 full time residents. Considering its rather small size and population, this place has a lot to offer and all are within walking distance.

Conveniently located just next door is the Tilghman Island Inn offering overnight accommodations, a full service restaurant, an inside lounge and waterside bar. All other dining, inns, shops and sights are within a short walk, dinghy ride or bike ride.
